Overview

In November 2020, the Department of Education provided a free resource to school districts and families. This resource consists of four webinars which are designed to help school districts understand the state’s New Jersey Dyslexia Handbook, and better identify and respond to students’ reading struggles. The four sessions are short with the entire series taking about an hour and thirty minutes.

Parents may find the information in the webinars and the online materials helpful to better understand the New Jersey State Handbook and school districts’ obligations towards students with dyslexia and reading disorders. Additionally, the supplemental materials explain terms, such as reading scope and sequence or structured literacy, which many parents struggle to understand.

Anyone may access this webinar series and the ancillary materials by clicking this link: https://www.nj.gov/education/specialed/dyslexia/handbook.shtml

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s reading struggles or you believe your school district is not abiding by these guidelines, please reach out to our Education Law Group for a virtual consultation.
